CoB (chip on board) refers to the way the LED unit is constructed. The basic components of a white CoB LED include

  • The power supply that provides the energy to drive the LED
  • A light emitting chip or “chip”. Sometimes called a blue pump, it is made of the semiconductor material indium gallium nitride (InGaN) and emits blue photons when energized.
  • A phosphor coating that converts blue light into white light. By controlling the chemistry of the phosphor, light of a specific color temperature can be produced
